Basivertebral Nerve Ablation
What’s Basivertebral Nerve Ablation?
Basivertebral nerve ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat chronic lower back pain caused by degenerative disc disease. The basivertebral nerve is a sensory nerve that transmits pain signals from the vertebral bodies, which are the bony structures that make up the spinal column. When these structures degenerate, the basivertebral nerve can become irritated and contribute to chronic back pain.
· During the ablation procedure, a thin needle is inserted through the skin and guided to the affected vertebral bodies using X-ray imaging. Once in position, radiofrequency energy is used to destroy the basivertebral nerve, interrupting its ability to transmit pain signals. The procedure typically takes less than an hour for Dr. Abdallah to perform and can be done on an outpatient basis.
· The potential benefits of basivertebral nerve ablation include significant reduction or elimination of lower back pain, improved physical function, and a reduced need for pain medication.
It’s important to consult with Rany Abdallah MD, PhD, MBA to determine if basivertebral nerve ablation is a suitable treatment option for your specific condition and symptoms. To set an appointment to find out if this procedure can help you with pain relief, call 855-932-7426*.
