Julia Yu, PA-C
Physician Assistant, Inpatient Pain Management
Julia Yu, PA-C, is a dedicated Physician Assistant with five years of clinical practice and more than 10 years of experience in healthcare. Her diverse clinical background includes experience in women’s health, weight management and fitness, and pain management, providing her with a broad perspective on the many medical, physical, and lifestyle factors that can influence a patient's health and well-being.
As a member of the Apico Pain and Wellness hospital-based pain management team, Julia specializes in the evaluation and management of patients experiencing acute pain, chronic pain, and acute exacerbations of complex chronic pain conditions during hospitalization. She works closely with patients, physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing teams, therapists, and other hospital specialists to help develop individualized and comprehensive pain management plans.
Julia recognizes that pain in the hospital setting is often complex and may be influenced by multiple factors, including an underlying medical condition, surgery, trauma, pre-existing chronic pain, previous treatments, and a patient's overall health. Her approach begins with a thorough evaluation of each patient's history, current symptoms, functional limitations, previous therapies, and individual treatment goals.
She emphasizes a multimodal approach to pain management, with the goal of achieving meaningful pain control while supporting mobility, recovery, function, and overall quality of life. When appropriate, treatment may incorporate medication optimization, non-opioid strategies, rehabilitative therapies, patient education, and collaboration with the interventional pain team regarding procedural treatment options.
An important part of Julia's role is helping patients navigate pain management during what can be a difficult and stressful period of hospitalization. She believes in listening carefully to patients, clearly explaining treatment recommendations, and establishing realistic and meaningful goals for pain control and functional recovery.
Julia also works collaboratively with the broader healthcare team to help promote continuity of care, particularly for patients whose pain management needs extend beyond their hospitalization. Her goal is to ensure that each patient receives thoughtful, compassionate, and evidence-based care while supporting a safe transition to the next stage of recovery.
Through her combination of clinical experience, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care, Julia is committed to helping patients achieve improved comfort, greater function, and a better overall quality of life.
