Rany T. Abdallah, MD PhD MBA
Founder & President

Dr. Rany T. Abdallah is the Founder and President of Apico Pain and Wellness and a double board-certified physician in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He is an interventional pain specialist, physician leader, educator, and clinical researcher dedicated to advancing comprehensive and innovative approaches to the treatment of pain.
Dr. Abdallah earned both his Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, followed by fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he served as Chief Fellow. He later earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA), complementing his clinical and academic training with expertise in healthcare leadership and management.
Before founding Apico, Dr. Abdallah held academic faculty positions at Temple University Health and the University of Vermont Health Network, where he served as Chief of the Division of Interventional Pain Medicine. He subsequently transitioned into private practice with the goal of creating a patient-centered model of pain care that combines the resources and innovation of academic medicine with the accessibility and personal attention of an independent practice.
At Apico Pain and Wellness, Dr. Abdallah treats patients with a broad spectrum of acute and chronic pain conditions, including disorders of the spine, chronic neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, joint and musculoskeletal pain, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, cancer-related pain, chronic post-surgical pain, abdominal and pelvic pain, and pain resulting from workplace and accidental injuries.
His philosophy emphasizes multimodal and individualized care rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Treatment may incorporate medication management, physical and rehabilitative therapies, behavioral and psychological strategies, complementary therapies, and image-guided interventional procedures. His procedural expertise ranges from targeted injections and radiofrequency ablation to advanced minimally invasive spine procedures, regenerative therapies, neuromodulation, and implantable pain therapies.
In addition to his outpatient practice, Dr. Abdallah is actively involved in hospital-based pain medicine and serves as Section Chief for Pain in the Department of Medicine at ChristianaCare, where he participates in the care of hospitalized patients with complex acute and chronic pain needs.
Dr. Abdallah remains deeply involved in the advancement of pain medicine nationally. He serves on the Board of Directors of the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) and is involved in national educational, scientific, and professional initiatives within pain medicine and neuromodulation. He has served as teaching faculty for major professional organizations and regularly participates in physician education, scientific meetings, and discussions surrounding emerging technologies and minimally invasive pain treatments.
Research is also an important part of his work. Dr. Abdallah is actively involved in clinical pain research, including the evaluation of emerging medical devices, interventional therapies, regenerative medicine, and other technologies designed to improve outcomes for patients living with pain.
Throughout his clinical practice, Dr. Abdallah maintains a simple guiding principle: every patient should receive the same compassion, attention, and thoughtful care that he would want for a member of his own family.
