Pain Management for Ischemic & Vascular Pain

What Is It?
Ischemic pain occurs when tissues do not receive adequate blood flow and oxygen. It can be severe and may signal significant arterial disease. Pain management can support selected patients, but it does not substitute for diagnosis and treatment of the underlying vascular problem.
How Can It Help?
Depending on the clinical situation, supportive pain treatment may include medical management, treatment of associated neuropathic pain, selected sympathetic procedures, or spinal cord stimulation for carefully selected refractory ischemic pain.
What Can Patients Expect?
New, rapidly worsening, or severe ischemic symptoms require prompt vascular evaluation. Pain interventions are considered only within an appropriate vascular treatment plan.
