Botox for Chronic Migraine

What Is It?
Botox is an established preventive treatment for appropriately selected adults with chronic migraine. It is not used simply as a cosmetic treatment in this setting; injections are performed in specific head and neck muscle regions according to a therapeutic protocol.
How Can It Help?
Botulinum toxin reduces release of signaling chemicals involved in pain transmission. Treatment is performed at regular intervals, and benefit may build over more than one treatment cycle.
What Can Patients Expect?
The procedure is performed in the office with multiple small injections. Temporary soreness, bruising, or localized weakness can occur. Patients continue to track headache frequency and severity so response can be assessed over time.
