What Is It?
Hospitalized patients may have severe pain after surgery, trauma, fractures, acute illness, or worsening of a chronic pain condition. An inpatient pain consultation brings a pain specialist into the hospital care team to help clarify the pain mechanism and build a practical multimodal plan.
How Can It Help?
Treatment may combine medication optimization with regional anesthesia, peripheral nerve blocks, fascial plane blocks, and coordination with surgery, trauma, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, and other services.
What Can Patients Expect?
The plan changes as the patient recovers. The goal is to improve comfort while supporting breathing, mobility, sleep, rehabilitation, and a safe transition out of the hospital.
