Large-Joint Sensory Nerve Blocks & Radiofrequency Ablation

What Is It?
Some chronic shoulder, hip, and knee pain is carried by sensory nerves around the joint. For patients who remain symptomatic despite conservative care, targeted nerve blocks can help determine whether interrupting these signals may reduce pain.
How Can It Help?
If a diagnostic block produces meaningful temporary relief, radiofrequency treatment may be considered for selected sensory nerve branches. Common examples include genicular nerve treatment for knee pain and sensory nerve targets around the hip or shoulder.
What Can Patients Expect?
These procedures reduce pain signaling but do not replace the joint or reverse arthritis. The goal is to improve comfort and function, particularly for patients who are not ready for surgery, cannot undergo surgery, or continue to have pain after other treatments.
