Understanding the Condition

Pain after a workplace injury, motor vehicle collision, fall, sports injury, or other trauma can involve the spine, joints, muscles, ligaments, or peripheral nerves. Some injuries heal quickly, while others lead to persistent pain, weakness, restricted movement, or difficulty returning to work and normal activity. A thorough evaluation is important because traumatic pain may involve several structures at once.

Causes

How It Develops & Common Causes

Common injury-related problems include disc herniation, radiculopathy, whiplash, joint injuries, soft-tissue injuries, fractures, nerve injuries, and aggravation of pre-existing degenerative conditions. In workers' compensation cases, treatment also requires clear documentation of diagnosis, functional limitations, response to care, and progress toward recovery or maximum medical improvement. The goal is to reduce pain while restoring safe function whenever possible.
