01The treatment

What Is It?

Peripheral nerve blocks place medication around a specific nerve outside the spine. They can be used to help diagnose the source of pain, provide temporary therapeutic relief, or determine whether a patient may be a candidate for another targeted nerve treatment.

02How it works

How Can It Help?

Ultrasound allows the clinician to visualize the nerve and surrounding muscles, blood vessels, and other structures in real time. Depending on the condition, local anesthetic and sometimes an anti-inflammatory medication may be used.

What Can Patients Expect?

The experience varies by nerve and body region. Temporary numbness or weakness can occur. The pattern of relief can provide important diagnostic information and help guide options such as rehabilitation, radiofrequency treatment, or peripheral nerve stimulation.
