03Where does it hurt?
Shoulder
Step 1
Common symptoms
- Pain lifting the arm or reaching overhead
- Night pain when lying on the shoulder
- Stiffness or loss of motion
- Weakness or catching
- Pain that spreads down the upper arm
Step 2
Conditions we treat
The condition pages that cover pain in this area.
Step 3
How we evaluate
Your visit starts with a comprehensive evaluation: your history, a focused musculoskeletal and neurologic examination, and a review of any imaging or diagnostic studies you already have. When it helps to pinpoint the source of pain, we use diagnostic nerve blocks or ultrasound-guided assessment before recommending treatment.
Ultrasound-guided examination distinguishes rotator cuff, bursal, joint and nerve sources of shoulder pain.
Step 4
Treatment options
Treatments linked from those condition pages, from conservative care to advanced procedures.
Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation & Functional RestorationPhysical therapy and rehabilitation help patients improve movement, strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, and confidence with activity.
Joint InjectionsImage-guided joint injections can be used to treat pain arising from joints such as the shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, or other articulations.
Bursa, Tendon & Soft-Tissue InjectionsPain can arise from bursae, tendons, tendon sheaths, ligaments, entheses, and other soft tissues around a joint.
Trigger Point & Myofascial InjectionsTrigger points are focal areas of tight, painful muscle that can produce local discomfort or referred pain.
Regenerative Medicine & Orthobiologics (PRP, BMAC & Fat Aspirate)Orthobiologic treatments use autologous materials obtained from the patient with the goal of supporting the body’s biologic healing environment. BMAC & fat aspirate: Coming Soon
Large-Joint Sensory Nerve Blocks & Radiofrequency AblationSome chronic shoulder, hip, and knee pain is carried by sensory nerves around the joint.
Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS)Peripheral nerve stimulation delivers electrical stimulation directly to a selected peripheral nerve or nerve region.
Functional, Mobility & Wellness AssessmentA wellness and functional assessment looks beyond a single painful diagnosis to evaluate how a person moves, functions, recovers, and maintains independence.
Weight & Metabolic Health OptimizationBody weight and metabolic health can influence joint loading, inflammation, energy, sleep, cardiovascular health, and the ability to exercise comfortably.
Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Nerve BlocksPeripheral nerve blocks place medication around a specific nerve outside the spine.
Neuralace Axon TherapyNeuralace Axon Therapy is a minimally invasive neuromodulation treatment designed for patients with certain forms of chronic neuropathic and peripheral nerve pain.
Work Injury Evaluation, Rehabilitation & Return-to-Work PlanningWork-related injuries often involve several overlapping issues: identifying the injured structure, controlling pain, restoring function, documenting progress, and determining safe work capacity.
Chiropractic CareAt APICO Pain and Wellness, Dr. Rany Abdallah offers comprehensive Chiropractic Care as part of an integrated approach to managing musculoskeletal pain.
Epidural Steroid InjectionsEpidural steroid injections are image-guided procedures used to place anti-inflammatory medication near irritated spinal nerves.
Selective Nerve Root BlocksA selective nerve root block targets a specific spinal nerve as it exits the spine.
Facet Joint & Medial Branch BlocksFacet joints are small joints at the back of the spine that help guide movement.
Radiofrequency Ablation of the SpineRadiofrequency ablation (RFA) uses controlled thermal energy to interrupt pain signals carried by selected sensory nerves.
Occipital Nerve Blocks & Radiofrequency ProceduresThe greater and lesser occipital nerves provide sensation to much of the back and top of the scalp.
Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)Spinal cord stimulation is an implantable neuromodulation therapy used for selected chronic pain conditions, particularly persistent neuropathic pain that has not responded adequately to more conservative treatment.Request an Evaluation
